Love and New Life
I had the opportunity yesterday to do a shoot with Stacey, Chris, and their adorable six-week-old son, Josiah. It was a very overcast day at the beach, but we got some great shots anyway! Here's a preview...
(I'm not sure why my photos have been uploading to Blogger at such a low quality- in reality they are much clearer than this.)
New families are probably one of my favorite subjects ever- there is so much love and joy, and newborn babes are so sweet! I had a lot of fun working with this precious family.

Photo of the Day: Playing with Fire
A couple nights ago we grilled organic turkey burgers and the Sicilian eggplant I previously mentioned in my farmer's market post, and then roasted some marshmallows for s'mores.
Fire is a very interesting subject- tricky but fun. This is not so great, not super focused, but I like it nonetheless.

I'm doing a family photo shoot today with a 6-week-old baby- I'm really looking forward to it! The Little One will stay with daddy; he's still having a rough time with teething so I'm hoping all goes well while I'm out. Right now he on the floor playing with the cord to my camera battery charger- not so safe- so I'm off for now!

A Morning at the Green Market
I love farmer's markets. The smells, the interesting people, the fresh foods, and live music. My sister came with Seth and I to the one in Delray Beach today. We left with a loaf of grainy bread, a sunflower, a Sicilian eggplant, some homemade granola and plenty of pictures!

The band consisted of an electric guitar, a flute and this base, and they sounded great!

I want this shirt- next time I go I'll have enough money with me :)

I cannot stress enough how huge these zucchinis were!

Photo of the Day: Teething
(I promise that all of my photos of the day will not be of my son. Though I can't guarantee that a fair percentage of them won't- after all I spend more time with him than anyone else these days, and he is the most adorable subject there could possibly be, right?)
Teething is a huge part of our lives right now. He will bite on anything to relieve the pain, including my fingers, and our dining chairs.

Searching for Balance
I shot a bar mitzvah a couple of weeks ago. It looks like I'll be posting about 70 photos to the client's web gallery- I'm hoping to be ready to do that early next week. The lighting situation was a challenge-- a small dimly lit room with a mirror on one wall, which happened to be the wall in front of which the ceremony took place!-- but I think that overall the photos came out good. I hope that they'll be happy with them.
It is such a challenge trying to find time to edit while taking care of a 9 month old. He doesn't want to share me! I tend to get frustrated and feel like I am not getting enough done, but I am trying to keep a positive attitude and make the most of the time I do have- when he's napping or after he goes to bed at night. I want to have a good turnaround time for my clients- I know what it's like to wait eagerly to see your pictures! But I also need downtime, and more sleep, and those are the things that seem to be taking a hit these days. Alas, I'll take less sleep over no jobs any day!

The Purpose of This Blog
I am a stay-at-home mom to a wonderful happy nine-month-old baby boy, and I am a portrait photographer. I love photography and I hope to make it a lifelong fulfilling career. I am just getting my business started, and I am still quite inexperienced (sometimes quite overwhelmingly so actually). But everyone has to start somewhere, so here I am starting. I am doing what I love, and I am so thankful that what I love also allows me to be with my son all day.
I have a goal now to take more photos, even when I have no paid jobs. On a daily basis, I need to use my camera more and experiment with it, try new things. I know it is the only way I will grow as an artist.
So to start off, photo of the day #1:

I shot this on a walk downtown with my family. I know it isn't super amazing- actually the focus is a little off. But I liked the sign and thought it would make an interesting shot.
